Rwandan orphans do their laundry in the AmeriCares clinic compound where they lived in October, 1994. Many children were separated from their parents during the exodus from Rwanda to Goma, Zaire (now Congo)to flee genocide and civil war in 1994. Many didn't know whether they were actually orphans or rather simply separated. The clinic, run by the New Canaan, Connecticut humanitarian organization also had a tent for about 15 of these children. The clinic was located in Buranga, halfway between Kigali and Goma.
