Akulo Hirin winnows maize in front of her hut in Agwang Camp in Lira District in Northern Uganda. While many neighbors have returned to their villages in the wake of a September 2006 ceasefire in the Northern Uganda conflict, she is alone and unable to rebuild a home in her village by herself. The conflict with the Lord's Resistance Army had forced as many as two million people into camps across northern districts for as many as 20 years. The LRA and Ugandan government have observed a ceasefire while engaged in peace talks to end the conflict. As a result many residents of camps for the internally displaced have been slowly returning to their villlages to begin again. (Rick D'Elia)
